Neck pain is a common complaint. Neck pain causes include muscle strains, worn joints, injuries, herniated disks or bone spurs, or other diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis or cancer. Some patients may have neck pain only, and this type of neck pain does not radiate to the shoulder or arm. Some patients may have both neck pain and arm pain. Patients may have pain on one side of the neck and the pain may radiate to the shoulder or all the way to the forearm and hand. Sometimes patients may have other symptoms besides pain such as limited or painful range of motion, weakness, and/or numbness.

A comprehensive interview and physical examination will be carried to assess the patient’s pain level, motion ability, and functionality. X-rays or some other imaging tests (MRI, CT scans, EMG) may be ordered for diagnosing purpose.
