Dr. Hongbo Liu is an orthopedic surgeon with fellowship training in both spinal disorders and pediatric orthopedics. He completed his fellowship training at world-renowned Mayo Clinic and the prestigious Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC). Dr. Hongbo Liu’s clinical interests include degenerative spine disorders, minimally invasive spine surgeries, pediatric spinal deformity, osteoporosis-related vertebral compression fracture, and spinal trauma.
Dr. Liu is an adult and pediatric orthopedic spine surgeon who has extensive experience specializing in the delicate science of spine surgery. Dr. Liu accomplished three clinical fellowships in the United States and received well-rounded and extensive training in spine surgery and pediatric orthopedics. Dr. Liu’s first fellowship was in pediatric orthopedic surgery at the CCHMC, and his second fellowship was focused on pediatric spine deformity and minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS) at the CCHMC, University of Cincinnati Hospital and the Christ Hospital. Dr. Liu then completed his third fellowship training in adult spine surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Dr. Liu received multiple awards during his academic training. He was granted the Japan-China Sasakawa Medical Fellowship and worked as a research fellow at Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine in Osaka, Japan. He received the 5th Annual International Pediatric Orthopedic Symposium Scholarship. He was recognized as an AO Spine North America fellow from 2010-2011. He also received a research grant from the Scoliosis Research Society related to regional and national trends in the surgical treatment of spondylolysis and spondyolisthesis in the pediatric patient. Dr. Liu has published articles in multiple orthopedic and spine peer-reviewed journals and a text book chapter on spine surgery techniques. He has presented his research at national and international spine and orthopedic meetings.
Dr. Liu’s clinical and academic training experiences have cultivated a healthy drive towards the pursuit of knowledge, attention to detail, critical thinking, and evidence-based practice. Dr. Liu treats patients not only by surgical methods but from a holistic approach. Dr. Liu believes in quality and excellence and provides individualized care to each of his patients.
In his spare time, Dr. Liu likes to watch basketball games and enjoys spending time with his family. He also loves reading, traveling and exploring new cultures.
